Adults 21 and older can shop at The Grove with a valid government-issued photo ID. Medical cannabis patients aged 18 to 20 can shop with a valid medical card. Everyone who walks in, rides along for curbside, or reserves a seat at the lounge shows ID at the door, every visit, at both our Las Vegas and Pahrump stores.

Key facts at a glance

  • Minimum age to shop adult-use cannabis in Nevada: 21, with a valid government-issued photo ID.
  • Medical cannabis patients aged 18 to 20 can purchase with a valid medical card; patients under 18 are served through a designated primary caregiver.
  • Every person who enters a store or rides along for curbside must be 21 or older (medical patients excepted) and must show ID.
  • Accepted ID includes a U.S. or U.S. territory driver’s license or ID card, a U.S. passport or passport card, and other government-issued photo IDs on the state’s list.
  • Out-of-state and many foreign government IDs are accepted; Nevada offers medical reciprocity to some states.
  • ID is checked at every channel: walk-in, curbside, delivery, and the Society Elevated Lounge.
  • Las Vegas is open 24 hours daily, and Pahrump is open 8 AM to 10 PM, so the ID check runs whenever the doors are open.

The age requirement in Nevada

Nevada sets the adult-use age at 21. Anyone buying cannabis for adult use must show a valid government-issued photo ID proving they are 21 or older, and that rule applies the same way at our Las Vegas store on University Center Drive and our Pahrump store on East Basin Avenue. Because the Las Vegas store is open 24 hours a day, the door check runs around the clock, so a 3 AM visit follows the same standard as a 3 PM one.

The age check is not a formality we can waive through for a familiar face. State law ties every transaction to a verified ID, and our budtenders scan identification before a sale is rung up. If you have shopped with us before, you will still be asked for your ID the next time you come in.

Medical cannabis patients

Nevada’s medical program opens the door slightly wider on age. Patients aged 18 to 20 can purchase cannabis with a valid medical cannabis card, and we serve them at both stores. Patients under 18 participate through a designated primary caregiver, who makes purchases on the patient’s behalf under the card on file.

A medical card also carries a higher possession allowance, up to 2.5 ounces of usable cannabis, which is more than the adult-use amount. The full breakdown of what you can buy and carry lives on our Nevada purchase limits guide. Bring the medical card and a matching government-issued photo ID when you shop.

Visiting from out of state on a medical card works too. Nevada extends reciprocity to patients from some states, so a valid out-of-state medical card paired with a government-issued photo ID from that same state lets you shop the medical menu. If you are unsure whether your state qualifies, call ahead and our team will confirm before you drive over.

What counts as a valid ID

A valid ID, in Nevada’s words, is an original government-issued photo identification that shows your photograph, full legal name, and date of birth, is issued by a recognized government authority, and is not altered, damaged, or illegible. The state publishes the exact list of documents dispensaries can accept.

Accepted IDs include:

  • A U.S. state or U.S. territory driver’s license or identification card
  • A U.S. passport or U.S. passport card
  • An enhanced driver’s license
  • A U.S. Department of Defense ID, including dependents, and a Veteran Health Identification Card
  • A permanent resident card, border crossing card, or USCIS employment authorization card
  • A federally recognized Tribal identification card
  • A DHS trusted traveler card such as Global Entry, NEXUS, SENTRI, or FAST
  • A foreign passport recognized by the United States, or a Canadian provincial driver’s license

A few documents do not clear the bar. Voter registration cards and foreign driver’s licenses outside the accepted list are not valid ID for a cannabis purchase. Your ID also needs to be unexpired, with one narrow exception: a U.S. state driver’s license or ID card that expired within the last two years can be accepted if you also present a second acceptable form of identification, such as a passport or birth certificate.

Every sale, including delivery and curbside, runs through a state-approved ID scanner. If a scanner cannot read your ID, our staff verifies it by hand against the security features and may ask for a second photo ID before completing the sale.

Bring your ID however you shop

The ID standard follows you across every way to shop The Grove, not just the front counter.

For walk-in visits, everyone who enters the store must be 21 or older and show ID, whether or not they plan to buy. For curbside pickup, every person in the vehicle, including the driver, must be 21 or older with a valid ID, and that holds even in a rideshare or taxi. The one exception is a passenger under 21 who is a medical patient with a valid, non-expired medical card. For delivery, the driver verifies your ID at the door before handing anything over, so keep it within reach. At the Society Elevated Lounge on Paradise Road, the same 21-and-older rule applies at entry, since it is a licensed consumption space rather than a bar.

Who cannot shop, and why

Being clear about who we cannot serve saves everyone a wasted trip. We cannot sell to anyone under 21 who does not hold a valid Nevada-recognized medical card, to anyone without an acceptable government-issued photo ID, or to anyone whose ID we cannot verify as authentic. An ID expired beyond the two-year state exception does not qualify, and neither does a document missing from the accepted list.

Minors are not admitted to the sales floor unless they are a qualified medical patient shopping under the program’s rules. Cannabis is also not consumed inside our stores; the Society Elevated Lounge is the licensed place to enjoy a purchase on site. None of this changes by location or time of day, so the same answer holds at the Las Vegas counter at midnight and the Pahrump counter at noon.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to bring an ID every time I shop at The Grove?

Yes. Nevada law ties every cannabis sale to a verified, valid government-issued photo ID, so you will be asked for it on every visit, even if you are a regular.

Can I shop if I am 20 years old?

Only with a valid medical cannabis card. Nevada allows medical patients aged 18 to 20 to purchase; without a card, the minimum age is 21.

Do out-of-state IDs work at a Nevada dispensary?

Yes. A valid driver’s license or ID card from any U.S. state or territory is accepted, as is a U.S. passport. Out-of-state medical patients can shop the medical menu where Nevada offers reciprocity, using a government-issued photo ID from the state that issued their card.

Does everyone in the car need an ID for curbside pickup?

Yes. Every occupant, including the driver and rideshare passengers, must be 21 or older and show a valid ID. The only exception is a passenger under 21 with a valid, non-expired medical card.

Can I use an expired license?

Only in one case: a U.S. state driver’s license or ID card that expired within the last two years, paired with a second acceptable ID such as a passport or birth certificate. Any other expired document is not accepted.

Do I need to be 21 to enter the Society Elevated Lounge?

Yes. Entry to the lounge follows the same 21-and-older standard, with ID checked at the door.
